SHORT PROGRAM 2009 - 2010
Morning
That magical time East of the Moon and West of the Sun.  The time when all things come to life.
Morning is the victory over the night.  Morning is the new beginning.  Morning is the hope.

The music
Morning Mood (Norwegian: Morgenstemning)
From Peer Gynt Suite by Edvard Grieg
Grieg was born in Bergen, Norway on 15 June 1843.  In 1876, Greig composed incidental music for the premiere of Ibsen's play
'Peer Gynt' at the request of the author.  Many of the pieces from this work became very popular
in the orchestral suites or piano and piano-duet arrangements.  Used often in television commercials and
motion pictures, the piece represents the rising of the sun.  Along with 'In the Hall of the Mountain King',
'Morning Mood' is one of Greig's best known works.

The story
Ibsen wrote Peer Gynt in deliberate, liberating disregard of the limitations that the conventional stagecraft of the 19th century
imposed on drama.  Its 40 scenes move uninhibitedly in time and space and between consciousness and the unconscious,
blending folkloric fantasy and unsentimental realism.
