A unique collaboration by: Anne Dudley and Jaz Coleman

 The Victorious City.............is Cairo.

Cairo is a modern city with two great cultural heritages - ancient Egypt and Islam.  "Songs from the Victorious City" is a collection of impressions, emotions and experiences inspired by Cairo in which the composers spontaneously integrated aspects of those two great cultures with their own modern Western culture.  The literal translation of Cairo (Al Khihira) is "The Victorious City".

The scores for this music were written by American composers and recorded in Cairo and London. They worked with the Cairo Strings Conductor and the orchestra at Ammar.   Dudley and Coleman say that "The musicians responded with great warmth and charm to us and to our music."  "They imbued our melodies with a vibrancy that we had only heard in our dreams."

The hazy skyline is filled with mosques, skyscrapers and minarettes.  The outlines of the colossal pyramids glow bronze in the shimmering heat, casting their magnetic spell over Cairo like an unfinished tale.

History is still unfolding in the victorious city.......an unfinished story, it could go on forever...............

This program is inspired by the impressions, the emotions, the sites, smells and sounds of the modern Egyptian culture - timeless yet full of life.
